Project Overview

Prior to establishing BIM AssetLab Ltd and BIM Asset Management Ltd, Raewyn Osborne partnered with Karl Fitzpatrick, winner of the BuildingSmart International 2020 BIM Awards Asset Management class as a result of BIM work completed for Auckland International Airport Limited.

Raewyn spent two years working with Karl Fitzpatrick sorting, editing and integrating over 100 mixed LOD models to create a Digital Twin of the International Terminal Building at Auckland International Airport.

The models were created in various specialised programs including REVIT and needed to be sorted into a number of categories (ie Architecture/Structure/ HVAC/Services and Areas).  Raewyn was responsible for upgrading models to Level Of Development (LOD) necessary for integration into Facilities Management programmes - creating appropriate schedules of areas/spaces/items data to be used for external contracts - administration of all models and associated files- creation of models from scan and/or plan data of areas not modelled. Creation and federation of .IFC files for open BIM and integration for Solibri and D-Rofus.

The focus was in adopting an “Open BIM” format enabling specialist disciplines to work in modelling programmes designed specifically for their area of expertise. The models and associated data are being fed into data management software and model viewing software that we were customising to provide live information to the different areas of the business.

Key Points

- Approximately 100 models federated successfully as IFC.

- Native models produced across multiple software and versions. IFC enabled them to be more effectively pulled together.

- IFC 2x3

- Models authored with Revit, AutoCAD, Prosteel & Archicad.

- Consists of as-built handover models, scan-to-bim, design models of varying verification.

- Existing International Terminal contains 250000+ modelled IFC entities

- IFC models of existing terminal were actively being used as reference models for over $2 Billion of future construction works (pre-Covid19).
